At Wilmot Modular Structures, Inc., we were proud to celebrate Women in Construction Week from March 2nd to 8th, 2025, an initiative sponsored by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). This annual event highlights the significant contributions of women in an industry historically dominated by men while inspiring future generations of female construction professionals.
The Growing Impact of Women in Construction
For decades, construction has been perceived as a male-dominated field, but times are changing. More women are entering and excelling in construction-related careers, breaking barriers and proving that talent, expertise, and leadership know no gender.
- -Women now make up nearly 11% of the construction workforce – an all-time high! (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2024)
-More than 25% of construction firms are owned by women, showcasing their growing leadership in the industry.
-Women in construction earn 99% of what their male counterparts make, compared to the 83% pay gap across other industries. (NAWIC, 2024)
-The number of women in construction management roles has increased by over 50% in the past decade as more companies embrace diversity and inclusion.
Despite these strides, women still face challenges in the industry, including underrepresentation in leadership roles and limited access to networking and mentorship. Celebrating Women in Construction Week helps spotlight these issues while encouraging more women to explore careers in the field.
Celebrating Our Wilmot Women
This year's theme, "Together We Rise," honored the strength, knowledge, and resilience of women in construction. To recognize the incredible women at Wilmot, we:
-Treated them to a special appreciation event featuring delicious food and thoughtful goodie bags with new PPE and self-care items.
-Shared an inspiring video message from our founder and female leader, Kathy Wilmot, highlighting the vital role women play in our company's success.
Women at Wilmot are project managers, engineers, administrative leaders, accountants, sales professionals, and marketers—each playing a crucial role in driving our company's growth and innovation.
Why Representation Matters
Encouraging more women to pursue construction careers isn’t just about fairness—it’s about building a stronger, more innovative industry. Studies show that diverse teams perform better, bring fresh perspectives, and drive higher profitability.
By supporting and empowering women, we not only create a more inclusive workplace but also help bridge the skilled labor gap facing the industry today.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Women in Construction
At Wilmot, we are committed to fostering an environment where women can thrive. Through continued mentorship, such as JA Leading Ladies, training opportunities, and leadership development, we aim to:
-Encourage more women to explore careers in construction.
-Support professional growth by investing in education and training.
-Champion diversity and inclusion to strengthen our industry as a whole.
Join Us in Celebrating Women in Construction!
As we reflect on this meaningful week, we invite everyone to recognize and celebrate the remarkable achievements of women in construction—especially those here at Wilmot. Together, we can inspire the next generation, foster a more inclusive industry, and continue building a brighter future—one project at a time.
